Why must all parents take pictures of their child making a mess with food? It's not an especially cute or flattering photo, so why do it? Maybe it's the freedom from society's conventions that makes parents relish these captured moments of their kids. If so, here's my contribution to the enduring tradition of messy/food/kid photos; let freedom reign!
